Rotating and moving motors often need to be combined with a reducer to achieve the required speed and torque. A reducer is a mechanical device that slows down the speed of a motor's output shaft while increasing the torque of the output shaft. Gear reducer Gear reducer is one of the most common types of reducer and is mainly composed of gears. As the motor rotates, the interaction between the gears can change the speed and torque of the output shaft. Gear reducers provide efficient energy conversion and can be used in a variety of applications, from industrial machinery to automobiles.
Bevel gear reducer Bevel gear reducer uses bevel gears to reduce speed and increase torque. They are often used in applications that require steering functionality, such as automotive differentials and cranes.
Worm reducer The worm reducer consists of a worm and a worm gear and can achieve a large reduction ratio. This makes worm reducers suitable for applications requiring high torque and relatively low speed rotation, such as conveyors and hoists.
Planetary gear reducer The planetary gear reducer consists of a central sun gear, planetary gears and ring teeth. Through this structure, high torque and high reduction ratio can be achieved. Planetary gear reducers are usually designed in a compact form for applications where space is restricted.
​Spur gear reducer:
Working principle: The spur gear reducer consists of two spur gears with spur teeth meshing. The input and output shafts are usually placed parallel.
Performance: Spur gear reducers are highly efficient and provide high power transfer with minimal slippage. However, they produce high noise and are not suitable for high-speed applications.
Helical gear reducer:
Working principle: Helical gear reducers have helical gears with helical teeth that mesh together at a certain angle. This design allows for smooth, quiet operation.
Performance: Helical gear reducers have higher efficiency and greater torque than spur gear reducers. They are ideal for heavy-duty and high-speed applications.
Worm gear reducer:
Working principle: The worm gear reducer is composed of a worm (helical gear) and a matching gear (worm gear). The input shaft is connected to the worm, and the output shaft is connected to the worm gear.
Performance: Worm gear reducers offer high reduction ratios and are suitable for applications where space is limited. However, they are less efficient and generate a lot of heat during operation.
Planetary gear reducer:
Working principle: The planetary gear reducer is composed of a central sun gear, planetary gears and ring gears. The planetary gears rotate around the sun gear and mesh with the ring gear, providing a high reduction ratio in a compact design.
Performance: Planetary gear reducers offer high torque density, low backlash and excellent efficiency. They are typically used in precision applications and where high torque is required.
Performance comparison:
Spur gear reducers are efficient but noisy and are suitable for low-speed applications.
